In partnership with WatchPAT, SA Medical is introducing for the first time in Ireland a Home Sleep Study for people with Sleep Apnoea. This Study is carried out in the privacy of a person’s home over a single night. The time and cost element are greatly reduced compared to attending a sleep clinic as an overnight patient. This new service will reduce waiting times, allowing more people to be diagnosed and offer appropriate treatment at a competitive price.

The WatchPAT sleep diagnostic device provides more clinical data than any other sleep diagnostic unit available in the market. WatchPAT does not require sensors or electrodes all over the body and as such is very easy to use. It is well validated alongside a PSG (Polysomnography) or sleep clinic based study, is both FDA and CE approved and it also meets AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) standards.

Through the exclusive technology used by WatchPAT, Sleep Apnoea can be diagnosed without the need for nasal cannulas or effort belts. It is the only device that measures real sleep time and sleep stages without the use of EEG electrodes attached to the patients head. Worn on the patient’s wrist (similar to a watch), it uses a non invasive finger probe making WatchPAT easy and comfortable to wear.

What Sleep information does WatchPAT provide?

WatchPAT’S advanced zzzPAT software provides a clinically validated algorithm that measures all sleep stages, light, deep and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. It provides information on sleep quality including sleep efficiency, sleep latency and REM latency. It also provides added value in detecting REM related Sleep Apnoea with REM and non REM AHI (Apnoea Hypopnoea Index)

WatchPAT measures 6 channels:

• PAT- Peripheral Arterial Tone, which is a physiological signal that mirrors changes in the autonomic nervous system caused by respiratory disturbance during sleep.
• Oximetry – the measurement of oxygen levels in the blood.
• Actigraphy – the measurement of body movement while sleeping.
• Heart Rate – the number of heart beats per minute while sleeping.
• Body Position – notes whether you sleep on your back (supine), front (prone), or side, all which influence apnoea.
• Snoring Intensity (dB) – loud snoring is a major indicator of Sleep Apnoea.

How do I order a SA Medical Home Sleep Study?

If you suspect you have Sleep Apnoea then consider taking our Home Sleep Study which is a simple, accurate, and cost effective way to have it confirmed. Within a very short time frame you could begin treatment (if required) and enjoy a good night’s sleep again.

Using WatchPAT’s unrivalled accuracy all our Home Sleep Study results are reviewed by an experienced Respiratory Consultant. A comprehensive report is issued outlining the results of the Sleep Study and recommendations made as to what treatment you should consider. The contents of the report issued are confidential and the results are not shared with any unauthorised party, they remain the property of the customer who has taken the Home Sleep Study.

Taking a Home Sleep Study-

1. Once you have ordered your Home Sleep Study and paid the appropriate fee the WatchPAT device is sent to you with precise instructions on how to use it together with a medical questionnaire for completion.
2. The price of a Home Sleep Study is €390 inclusive of vat at 23%. A deposit of €200 is also required which is refunded once the WatchPAT diagnostic device is returned to SA Medical, undamaged.

3. On receiving the WatchPAT device you are asked to fill in the questionnaire and take the test that night.

4. The WatchPAT device and completed questionnaire are returned to SA Medical in the pre-paid envelope the following morning

5. Your sleep data is downloaded and together with the questionnaire is reviewed by an experienced Respiratory Consultant. A detailed report is prepared and recommendations made as to what treatment you should consider.

6. The results are sent to SA Medical who in turn sends them to you, the customer.

7. Based on the results of your Home Sleep Study and if CPAP therapy is recommended then we suggest that you speak to SA Medical about the range of CPAP Machines and variety of Face, Nasal and Nasal Pillow masks that we have available. If the recommendation is for further investigation then you can bring a copy of the Home Sleep Result to your GP for his review.
